The best way to ensure a long and happy relationship with a purebred dog is to purchase from a responsible breeder. While the AKC does not endorse or recommend specific breeders, they do offer several resources to locate AKC Breeders List. The AKC recommends puppy buyers begin the search process by contacting the AKC Parent Club.
The AKC provide a list of responsible AKC Breeders List who have volunteered to list their contact details for the reason of any new born puppies they may have. Potential buyers can contact these breeders through their respective clubs in order to look for a specific breed of dog.
The AKC Breeders List list provides links to the breeder referral contact for the parent club, to the parent club web site, and to licensed breeders listed on that site if available. If you have not had any luck contacting those on the list, please search for a local club. This will put you in touch with volunteers from all-breed clubs. However, they may not have a member of their club with the breed you are interested in.

The AKC offer space for new AKC Breeders List to contact them and list their details to allow people to contact them in their search for a specific breed of puppy. The contact details usually consist of a telephone number or an email address in which the AKC Breeders List can be contacted.
When buying a puppy from a breeder it is recommended that you find out information about the breeder and the puppies before making any type of purchase, although the majority of dog breeders are very safe and recommended to buy from, there are others who may not know anything about dog breeding and are only selling puppies for a profit, this may result in poor puppy health or unfortunately a shorter pet lifespan if the puppies are not properly cared for in their first few days of being born.
